On Sunday night i realised entries were closing for the Macarthur Criteriums to be held on Sunday April 3rd. So with a few hours left to enter i didn't bother trying to remind anyone.

Luckily they seem to have extended entries until Sunday 27th.

We had a reasonably sized group race last year. It's a fairly easy circuit, and nice and fast unless the bunch doesn't want to ride.

I may enter, just need to think about it. Who else is in??

Ach, forgot to enter after getting approval =(. Apparently there are late entries on the day though.

How do the divisions here compare to usual A/B/C grading? I've raced comfortably in C grade Beaumount Rd and A grade at Southern Cross.

(The Macarthur CC website mentions that late entries will incur "strict grading", not sure what this means.)

go in the bottom grade. Even if your a strong rider (which you are) these crits are a harder level than club level. (tuesday night Heffron i a good judge of where your up to id say)

There's quite a difference in start times for the grades, we are better off knowing our grade before we turn up

http://www.macarthurcycling.com/?month= ... year_race=

Depending on my grade, I'm thinking of catching the train from Wolli Creek (50 minutes) and riding there (8k). Then I've got the option of riding home afterwards (50k).

Interesting grading

A bit of data, in July last year Joshua and I went down to MCCC and did their ITT
Results
2nd Joshua 25.50
13th Michael Cl 28.39
41 competitors

Now to map the times against the entrants we get;
Div ITT Name
1 24.57 TALBOT, Brodie
1 26.08 KOLBACH, René
1 28.20 BUTLER, Trent
2 26.08 HAMPTON, David
2 27.00 MCDONALD, Daniel
2 27.32 BANCE, Barry
2 29.19 TAYLOR, Aaron
2 29.53 PLAYFORD, Matthew
2 30.20 MCLAREN, Daniel
3 28.44 JACKSON, Andrew
3 28.59 DENNIS, Johnathon
3 29.26 HICKEY, Daniel
4 28.39 CLEMENT, Michael
4 30.06 GLEESON, Michael
4 30.42 KOUREMBES, Jimmy
4 31.36 KEERS, Allan
4 31.51 FLOOD, Peter
4 32.03 VELLA, Jason
4 32.07 MINASSIAN, Luke
4 32.12 PELLIZZERI, Joe

The ITT course was hilly and I understand that the crit course is flat

Grades look to be where they should be, though i've got no legs at all. I might try to find some legs during the day tomorrow.

If you look at my ITT time, I'm faster than all of the Div3 riders and half of the Div2 riders. So if those ITT times reflect performance, it would indicate that all 3 of the DHBC Div3 riders should be in contention

...and following that logic Josh should be at the very top of A grade which he's obviously not. Sorry Josh! I think you'll find that your methodology is flawed Mike, not the grading system. You're comparing turnips with oranges.

Hi Mike,

Open Grades are set by your club handicapper and submitted to Cycling NSW on a quartely basis i believe. The clubs/promotors for open events then use this information to assign gradings/handicaps for entered riders.

If you feel you should be riding up a grade talk to your club handicapper.

See you out there Sunday :)

I'm not so much seeing that, I'm seeing that MCCC have graded their riders a little hard. It's also hard to compare a hilly ITT with a flat crit
