I've been running Conti GP4000 for the past x3 sets for training/commuting. What is everyone else using that offers good rolling resistance, grip, puncture prevention balance?

You can buy cheap tyres and consider them to be "for training", and save $10-20 every 4-6 months. But invariably they offer poorer grip than a premium tyre like GP4000. Question is, how much is a crash worth to you? If it's more than $10-20, then is it worth saving on "training tyre"? Unless one is tight financially, there's a case to be made for always riding on the grippiest and safest tyre, training or not.

Not too worried about the cost, just not happy when i get punctures. I've tried Gatorskins but find them too heavy.

GP4000 with its Vectran belt is actually quite good in terms of puncture resistance. At the end of the day, all tyres puncture and then there's a matter of luck.

You can go to Gatorskin for something even tougher, but it's heavier and some still report punctures and punctures.

Personally, I've had good experiences with GP4000 series tyres. Pump to an appropriate tyre pressure; be vigilant on glassy areas; coast and ride softly if lands on a glass patch; check and pick out glass fragments after each ride. These will all help to avoid punctures.

I have gatorskins on my commuting bikes. I never noticed they were heavy, but now that you mention it I guess they are. If they're for training though, isn't this a good thing?
If it's raining, I ride my MTB to work. Rain + Gatorskins + cycle path green paint = dinted bike. :(

Ditto on the gatorskins.
but my equation is a little different
rain+ new gatorskins + cycle path green paint = riped jacket and sore hip
i've never had an issue on older ones(5000+km's)

i also run the GP4000's on my road bike. never felt the difference(in weight/speed). my tubulars woo-eee they feel good!
but i always worry about punctures on these wheels.

I have used vittoria robino 111 tyres and find them very good wearing and for racing too.

I have a spare pair if you like for the low price of $46

Bit the bullet and got another set of GP4000 + new brakes + new bar tape + an overdue wash.

Time to get it dirty....
