Hi All,

One of the dominating themes that came through from the survey was that of a need for additional weekday rides that the club hosts. To that end, we are offering the following ride:

Day: Tuesdays
Time: 5:30am
Place: The Marrick (the old Marrickville Road Cafe)
Route: Eastern Suburbs Hills

In terms of route, we will do a standard CP, Bronte, Bondi, Watson's Bay, Heartbreak Hill, Cranbrook Rd, Bondi Junction. The finer details we will work out over the next few days.

The ride will be hosted by myself, Christian and/or Alex. The advantage of this ride is that we can maintain a standard pace between hills and then have common meeting points at the top of each hill so stronger riders still get some fast interval training in. And for those who have not done the Eastern Suburbs hills before, the sun rise while at Watson's Bay is beautiful. Could well be the weekly photo location!

However, please note this is not a beginners ride and I would suggest C28's and above simply due to time constraints on a weekday morning. We will aim to be a 'no drop' ride but if you are last up the hill, please ensure that the person in front knows you are still to come. I have been guilty of leaving people behind!

For the first ride next week, can you please register your interest here. For those that are not on the forum, you can email me at dulwichhillbc@gmail.com. Please ensure you do as it is terribly disconcerting to be a ride leader expecting 10 people on a ride and 20 show up.

I hope to see you there!

@Peter - I would estimate that the ride would be back at Centennial Park around 7:15ish. Then it would be DIY back to wherever you need to go or to coffee for those so able.

We won't be going up Enmore road, we will be heading up Victoria road from marrickville then onto Llewellyn, Alice, King, Sydney park rd then Euston . So if you want to pick us up all route then wait on this route.

What a great ride! Good group, good route...

You can see my Strava data here (note: this link may not work if you are not friends with me on Strava).

Certainly a bit quicker than a few of us are used to with Christian and Alex on the front but they were very patient on the hills and we all regrouped at the top of each one.

We ended up back at Bondi Junction around 715 (including Bellevue Hill Rd ascent) and so back in the city by 730.

See you all next week!

Thanks everyone, what a great ride... great group, great hills. I scored 22 pr's so I think that means it was a good pace, or else it means I was slacking off every other time l rode it. Keeping up with Alex and Christian was challenging but in a good way. Also got home in time to do the school drop off, some days it just works!

Hi Jonathon,

We come up Darley Rd so I would suggest meeting us at the corner of York and Darley on that pedestrian island.

According to Strava we were there approximately 28mins after we left which is approximately 6am. I would get there about 10mins earlier than that just to be on the safe side. So 5:50am? Ben, want to meet at the same time?

Hi All,

Thanks for another great ride.

To those who were late, apologies! It's very tight in terms of time and so we can't dawdle. John H, we saw you up Enmore Rd. We yelled but not sure if you heard us? Just a reminder that we don't take the Slowies route to CP. We go around the back along Alice St and McEvoy to ensure we end up on Darley Rd.

To Ben and Jonathon, the lights were green! But we will ensure we keep the pace a little more controlled next week to allow you to jump on. Perhaps we arrange for you guys to meet us on the other side of the road alongside the parked cars so you can start rolling?

See you all then.

Sorry I missed the DHBC ride - that will teach me to be on time.

Geoff and I still enjoyed a roll to LaPa under the strong leadership of Adrian E. We felt a bit out of place without wearing MC Cyclery livery. It was a large but tight bunch with good calls.

We still enjoyed the industrial views of the Sydney shoreline, while you guys enjoyed the mansions and manicured gardens.

Next time. And no, I didn't hear you...

Hi All,

Ride is on again tomorrow morning. Unfortunately I won't be there as I've been crook all weekend and still well under the weather.

Christian will still be there and possibly Alex? Won't start a list this time but don't be late! Group will leave at 530 from The Marrick.

Enjoy!

Note that part of Grand Drive will be closed for a live TV cross from 5:30am to 6:30am and that we will be diverted up to the Paddington Gates and around the back.

Hi 'blah'!

Sorry, I don't know who you are. The intent is for hills to be on but with the current weather forecast it is looking unlikely. We generally don't run the ride if it is raining though I know a few 'hard-men' who ride rain, hail or shine and, in fact, were out doing eastern suburbs hills this morning.

Keep an eye on the radar tomorrow morning.

does anyone have the route the club normally takes for this ride? a gpx file or a link to strava for the route? We are planning to join in somewhere in eastern suburb before the start of 1st hill.
Thanks.

Here is my Strava Anna:
http://www.strava.com/activities/91876979

As for the first hill, that is likely Bronte Beach though some might argue that Darley Rd is a hill, as are parts of McEvoy! Where do you think you will meet us? Probably best to ensure it is on a downhill as we rarely slow down if it's an uphill or during a pickup.

Where do you think you will meet us?
Centennial park roundabout on Darley road.
We'll be there at 5.45, and expect the bunch to get there about 5.50am?

Hi All,

We probably need to tidy up the end of the ride given we have some riders heading in to the city and some back to Marrickville and everything gets a little confusing on Old South Head Rd.

One suggestion is to stop at the cafe at the top of Bellevue Hill Rd. RBCC also stop there so it might get a little bit squashed but we could always try it. Another option is to have coffee in Bondi Junction in the Oxford St mall at Zoo or the next one along. We could also go to a cafe further towards Marrickville but that is tricky for those heading to work in the city.

Let me know suggestions/comments and we can trial it next week.

3 of the 12 today got left behind as we reached the top of Bellevue Road and within easy eyesight and then calling distance but then left to navigate our way home in peak hour and Sid Enfield Drive by ourselves. Thanks Cam for dropping back early on as well as Ben later. This provided more safety with numbers.

Its worth becoming familiar with the numbers in the group and especially checking that those who are likely to come up the hill at the back end are present before departing. Those on the back of the breakaway, please communicate upfront when you become aware others are separated by lights behind. Those on the front, please be aware of what is happening behind as well as in front. Not always possible I appreciated, but today's split should not have happened.

I agree and it was partly my fault. I thought I was down the back and the front of the bunch was waiting not in the usual spot and thought I spied them up ahead but it was a tangle of SUVelo and RBCC and none of ours. By then there was nowhere to wait and that bunch ahead of us were off down Sid Einfield and we followed them.

Turns out I was closer to the front than I thought when we got to the top of Bellevue. I think we then got split into 3 bunches as a result.

Our little grupetto ended up at the LAPA Ride cafe and enjoyed some coffee once we realised we had made the cutoff. I also got to ride with the woman coming 20th in the world on the Strava Prove It female leaderboard. :D
