Traffic calming is being put in place in Centennial Park to stop cars and bikes before entering Grand Drive from Hamilton Drive (down from Paddington Gates). You know, that place where you go flying down the hill too fast?

Note from CP says:

As part of the Centennial Parklands' Sustainable Parklands Program, we will be installing a new traffic calming island at the corner of Hamilton Drive and Grand Drive to improve traffic flow and safety at this busy intersection.

The new traffic calming island will ensure and enforce vehicles and cyclists are safely brought to a complete stop before exiting Hamilton Drive and proceeding into traffic on Grand Drive.

We have consulted with cycling groups and other stakeholders on the design elements of this project to ensure they are industry standard and safe outcomes for park users.

The works will start on Monday 9 March and take one approximately week to complete (weather permitting).

Works will take place between 7.00 am to 5.00 pm and involve:
Installation of new traffic calming island / kerbing
New and improved linemarking at the intersection
New stormwater pit on the corner of Hamilton Drive to improve water drainage in the area.

Traffic control will be in place while the works take place and a VMS has now been installed on Hamilton Drive to alert vehicles and cyclists of the works and traffic changes ahead.

We kindly ask that all park users comply with any safety directions provided around the worksite for the safety of our contractors and the general public.

The stormwater pit is good news. It's always really wet there after rain with pooling water too. Can't say as I really blame them for this as it can be fairly dodgy there with riders coming down Hamilton at 45k+, myself included :-)

Looks like they may be making it one way down too, which is excellent.

Yes, was going to say what Ben said - looks like those QOM's and KOM's are here to stay.

Has there been an incident there? I would have thought there are other areas of Centennial Park that could be resealed before spending money on this?
