Entries for the Angry Doctor 100km race at Mogo on the 5th of September are now open, so if you want to ride you'll need to get in quick. While you're at it you may want to sort out your accommodation as well as it will all fill up pretty fast. Vic and myself are staying in Batemans Bay on the Saturday night.

High chance of rain :(

I don't mind the rain, but if it looks like it's going to be as bad as Captial Punishment apparently was then I would consider not riding. Only because I can't afford to replace bits on my bike right now!

Rain forecast for tomorrow, 20% chance on Sunday.

Nothing can be as bad as Capital Punishment. My bike hasn't been the same since. Made for some great photos though http://www.damianbreach.com/Blog_10/CapitalP/index.html

worst weekend ever.

I think you nailed it there.

No racing and a car peppered with dents from falling tree branches overnight and a massive repair bill

There is a lot of talk about this over at rotorburn.

What happened was a rather big storm, there were tress down everywhere. We had to help clear the road on the way out to the event. It was meant to be a 7am start, they delayed till 9am, then delayed till 12 noon with the promise of a 20km loop, so a 40km race. When we were on the start line this became a 8km loop and we were going to do 4 laps. It turned out to be a 11km loop, and a dangerous one at that. It has a fast steep descent with water bars in it, which is fun if you know the track. At the end they sent us down the shoulder of the highway, on the wrong side of the road. They ended the race after one lap.

The organisers should have made the call to cancel the event at 9am instead of stringing everyone along till midday and then running that excuse of a race. If they had canned it earlier we could have gone home early (via Canberra as there was a downed power line in Milton and a truck had rolled over at Nowra). At least going via Canberra could have given us the option to go ride Stromlo since we would have been there.

Oh really Megan? That sucks!!

I don't know if I will do an AROC even again. It seems they have problems with cancelling events in extreme conditions - I didn't realise until this morning that they are also behind Capital Punishment.

So instead of racing I spend over $300 to go and stay in a place that wasn't all that great, eat a lot of food that I never got to burn off and spend over 8 hours in a car (thank you Christian for driving said car!). I am sitting at work today feeling completely ripped off and more than wanting my money back, I want my time back!

Oh that is terrible. I am sorry to hear you all had such a bad time. I had been really disappointed to miss out, as they seemed to have a really good thing going on, but I will probably steer clear of their events now as well.

Oh can I just add that I missed out on RAW on Friday night so I could be fresh for this freaking race too. Grrr!

Easily the worst weekend away in a long time. Did the prologue on the Saturday (another 20 dollars) which was 10k of slippy, muddy trails and was deflated after that with the prospect of Sunday being the same.

Pleased we didn't hang around for the race they did put on in the end.

Got me thinking about these events having taken part in a few recently. What I used to like about mountain biking and riding in general was that it was no cost after equipment. No expensive memberships, fees or race entry costs. Granted equipment isn't cheap but neither are a set of decent golf clubs, etc. These MTB event organisers are for the main running races on public land and charging through the nose for the privilege. From what I can gather, very little cash goes back into the sport.

Thinking I'd be better heading off to these venues with a group of mates, map and GPS in future. Would save a fortune in event fees and not feel ripped off at the end of the weekend (the "complementary" copy of MAY's Australian Mountain Biker magazine topped it off this weekend).

I think you're onto something JonB and Orphic I agree, I want my time back too!

To sour my experience even further I just found out that the damage to the car is extensive enough to require the entire roof to be replaced along with the front windshield. (I realise this element is just an unlucky accident but still crappola and what I will remember most about the whole damn thing).

The cost/benefit ratio for this weekend is seriously tipped in the wrong direction and definitely puts me off participating in these types of events in the future unless its something local.
