Scott 24hr 2011

I suspect entries will open at the beginning of July, so intead of doing the rush to organise teams like last year I thought a friendly reminder early would be helpful so people can get it sorted.

It's on the 8/9th October this year and without the solo's having a seperate course it should be back to a figure 8 loop. Hopefully that means a different night course like they did the year previously? I guess I only rode it last year so only know what it's like to race when it's set up for teams and when the night lap is the same as the day.

Ha, sweet name!

Any word on other DHBC teams?

I believe Allison and I will be entering a team... She has a couple of mates doing it but I'm sure they won't mind if we come under the esteemed banner of DHBC...

At this stage, it's only a confirmed team of 3 - waiting to hear from the fourth. But if he can't come, maybe we can convince someone from DHBC to join us. (PS. Jo, congratulations on the ride in Goulburn!)

Thanks Allison!

Now are we still heading to RAW this Friday (I know this is the wrong thread but I'm sure no one will mind)

I have no doubt we'll convince a 3rd person to join us. Maybe Lizanne if we can get her a MTB?

I think I might give my knee a bit more time off. But will come out and watch. If I could still get a lift, that would be great. Just tell me where in the inner west to be standing and when!

Just entered "Triple D", Alex, John and myself. Aiming for a podium finish this year, maybe, if Johns knee recovers and I actually train.

Unfortunately I'm the only one of our team of 4 who can still make that weekend / has no injuries. So, we're out...

Hey Ali that sucks to hear, do you still want to ride? I reckon you can convince some people around here to jump on mountain bikes...

Yep - still keen to ride! Another option is to keep an eye on some of the mountain bike forums - I noticed that before the Mont there were lots of calls for replacement riders.

Absolutely! Or you could head on over to Silent Revolution and see if there are any gals there that need a team. There are some rad chicks over there that do lots of riding of bicycles and show up to lots of races and podium a fair amount :)

I think Montana was in the process of finalising teams or has done so, but there are always more showing up and wanting to give racing a go!

Good idea, Vic. I just checked their website and it looks like they might have finalised the teams, but I get in contact just in case someone pulls out.

Or maybe you should ask Jo Skinner and James fowler they both have mountain bikes ??

I'm just waiting for Simon to let me know if he can get the weekend off, then i'll be sorting my team out (hopefully the next couple of days).

Jo was on the original team of 4 but can't make it now... I said to someone that it should be pretty easy to get a team together. Their response was, "Yeesss... Because the world is just full of people desperate to do a 24 hour mountain bike race."

Where's the hype? Who's heading down when? Who's actually ridden off road since registering for the event?

I haven't done much in the way of off road riding and I am ill prepared. But you know... What could possibly go wrong?

Hey Vic, haven't you just ridden from Cairns to Canberra? That's a a lot in the way of road riding. How is Canberra by the way, hope you have settled in ok?

Massive thread hijack there Joe!

I'm pretty pumped for the Scott. It's probably about time we start organising who is bringing what.

Hey Jo! I got sick (some bacterial thing probably from water) so had to bail out at Scone. Been chillaxing at my folks place (read: raiding their pantry) and heading to Canberra on Saturday. Not riding though, need to do some kind of taper before 24 hours of saddle time. Eeek! So yeah, don't lots of Bob towing road km's but nothing in the way of riding trails. But that means I can't wait for this race! For me it's all about cruising round doing some laps while chatting to friends, eating food and getting to see the sunrise. Sweet.

Have I sold it yet? ;)

I still have heaps to organise... Food, and I need a marquee thing or something to base myself under. No tent, that only tempts you with sleep.

If you guys need a trailer to get all your gear down there send me a PM TODAY I have rigged up a 7X4 box trailer with racks for 5 bikes on a frame above the trailer leaving room for all your gear underneath. You just need a towbar.

I'm going to Canberra then the South Coast early tomorrow morning and wont be back before the Scott. If you are interested you would need to pick it up tonight from Ashfield.

I might be interested in the Scott next year. I bought Ondrej's (from Bernard Riders) old bike yesterday. Dirt looks like fun.

Should be fun! Both laps are pretty sweet. Some rocky stuff in the blue one to teach you some moves Tim. Weather down here isn't all that grand but a bit of mud is good for you and stromlo drains pretty well. Make sure you come say hi before it all kicks off tomorrow. I'll be in the solo pits with my feet up!

Race? Well my learn to ride 24 hour class went nicely :) no crashes, though I did sort of slide out once during my night ride, I dont think that counts.. really loved the whole thing though, its like a music festival with bikes instead of music?! crazy!
Seriously riding around on those bikes is pretty freaky, then the lights go out!? well your lights go on, the sun goes down!!

Was a great race! So good to have everyone there and the hellos and slaps on the ass (maybe just one) as you guys caught up or passed kept me in good spirits. I am heaps happy with my result and it feels really awesome to have achieved something I said would do when I turned up to support you guys racing 2 years ago - that I would one day race the Scott solo!

Ended up riding for the full event without sleep or rest. Only time off the bike was for a whopping two calls to the ladies, in my pit for bike maintenance (including an annoying problem that saw an almost 30 minute pit!) and one rather non discreet change of knicks in our marquee. Am really happy with fourth place considering I requested no race placing updates from support crew as I was there for survival not for the win. You have to build up to these things ;)

Congrats to everyone for some awesome riding out there!

wow congrats vic!
i have to say-*you'r my hero!*
can't believe you rode that much. and with the less than ideal lead up. hopefully the scott doesn't clash with skating next year and i can watch/be in a team.

Great effort Vic and well done for 4th place - it does sound like fun, but too hard core for me, I'm not sold yet. How did every one else go? Any broken fingers or bones this time?

Re: Scott 24hr 2011

No broken bones this year. The three man team started out well and we were moving up places before out race ending crash occurred. The course this year was an hour glass arrangement with the red lap being 12km with the climb up mount Stromlo and the associated decent and the blue lap being flatish (compared to the red lap) and 13km long but a lot more technical with lots of rock gardens. We stared out taking one lap turns and being on a three man team means we got to alternate colours, our lap times were not blinding fast but respectable. At night we decided to ride a set of doubles, I rode mine, Alex was next and this is where it made a turn for the worse. He crashed on the first lap of his double bending his frame and rendering his race over. At this point we decided to sleep, well John made this call. In the morning we got up and John rode a double then I rode another double to push us past 11am so we could record a time. Before Alex's crash we had moved up to fifth position.

Alex will be able to fill you all in on his injuries and if he could walk this morning. Next year I think we will have to come up with our own category so we can win, I'm thinking fixed 3's.

Well done Vic, you're a machine.

Hope Alex is ok. Whose bike did he break or does he have his own now?

He broke his own bike on it's first ride, but he did get a set of Oakleys for the effort.

In our 4 man team (formerly 3 mixed, formerly 4 mixed), we had a great time, though we did have to get a mechanical out of the way early when Lindsay broke his chain on the 2nd lap (which left us at the back early on). Tim did very well for his first ride. Alan did some nice fast lap times to help move us through the rankings. Lindsay rode consistently doing his best to find the freebies scattered around the course. I had great fun continuing my MTB learning, though waking up to ride at 2:30am takes a bit of effort.

In the end we finished in 72nd and 272nd overall, but more importantly we had some fun.

Well done to the Bernard Boys who finished 2nd in the 4 man teams, and good luck to them in the Crocodile Trophy next week.

Results are HERE

My race was a bit tougher than I was expecting. I wasn't expecting the course to require so much concentration and to littered with so many rocks! My new bike was great (far more competent than me) and stayed upright in spite of all my mistakes, except two. Luckily, I just ended up with some bruises and scrapes. My team of 4 became a team of 3 only hours before the start, so we ended up taking 4 hours off during the night. Unfortunately, my knee and elbow were a bit sore and with people coming and going throughout the night, no sleep... So, not the easiest weekend, but now I'm inspired! Next time, I'll do a bit more preparation, though. And pick a quiet place to camp, like Lindsey and co!

Riding at night was quite good and around midnight, I saw an echidna trundling across the track. Because my team went from 4 to 3 women, we ended up in a category with only 1 other team. And a nice pair of Jetblack glasses as a prize!

It was good to catch up with all the other DHBC riders and see Vic in amazing shape after her solo ride. And so so close to third place!

Hope you recover before the weekend, Alex...

Was great to bump into you Alison! I was feeling a bit dazed and confused so conversation was probably pretty disjointed - I apologise if I didn't make any sense. The last time I felt like that was when I used to go out partying all weekend and not get much sleep... Hmmmm maybe it's similar really.

Glad you hooked up with the Silent Rev girls in the end. They are all pretty rad. You should def get involved in more races with them cos they seem to do heaps!
