DHBC Womans Road Time Trial Team
Seeing we don't have enough elite woman or masters woman to make up a woman's time trial team in each division, we approached Cycling NSW to see if they would accept having 3 masters + Amy in the Elite TT category - just so we could get a ride and experience in (AMy, Michelle P, Camilla and myself). After long discussions they couldn't see any way around it apart from us paying the extra $100 each for the elite lisence which is too much for one race. So this is a call out to any of the woman out there at DHBC who want to have a go at a 40km time trial. For the masters we need 1 more, and for the Elite we need 3 more! It's on June 20.
... And for the juniors we'll need 4 more. For the masters we need 1 more, and for the Elite we need 3 more!
Good luck with the call out!
I'm interested in doing it. I don't have any other races on for June so why not.
Have you ever been up to the course Jo? We could organise a ride up that way before the time trial to check out the course. It's quite a good ride out there - I've been past but never up the road where the TT is held.
Are you girls doing any specific training for it?

Btw, I saw the minutes from the AGM and didn't it say we only have 3 elite female members? That would be Amy, Jessica and myself.
A bit hard to make a team of four unless we convince someone to move to DHBC or if there's a member lurking without a race license...

I want to have babies !!Should we call you Loretta from now on?
We are not doing any specific training for it, but would like to get together for a few rides before then. There is also a trial I think on the 6th of June at Calga. It would be great to be able to enter 2 womans teams, but that looks doubtful unless some ladies decide to take up a racing lisence.I'm interested in doing it. I don't have any other races on for June so why not.

I don't think I know Pip. Does Megatron have a road bike?
I think a couple of training sessions in Centennial Park would be wise. Boring as it's about 10.5 laps of the park but it's important to get used to what intensity we can all ride at for that long, and have some kind of strategy around it so we all survive but get to push ourselves.
One thing I've heard is that if you have your weaker riders on the front for the uphill bits and your stronger riders on the front for the downhills you make more use of drafting benefits.

Also another important reason for doing TT practise is to get use to riding very close behind the other riders in your team. Especially on the transition from flat to a climb you have to be confident that the rider in front of you isn’t going to come flying backwards when they stand up or sit down. Team TT riding is quite different to normal bunch riding so practise is important. Also getting to know the limits of your team mates is useful, so you can pull a longer turn if they look like they need a rest, etc.
Above all else try and enjoy it, team events are very rewarding.

Funnily enough I haven't checked the forum for ages due a long stint with no consistent bike action for a number of reasons (primarily crazy work hours that have been killing me and pretty much explain my disappearance) and just happened to check back in today. My ears must have been burning.
However things are easing up and I am ready to get back into it and a woman's time trial team sounds like fun! I do have a road bike and some rusty legs that will need some training. But keen to give it a go.

Awesome! Are you cool with upgrading your license to a race license? The thing is that you will probably have to pay for it for the whole year, rather than half the year which would be the case if you were upgrading on or after July 1st. It might be a good idea to check with CNSW though.Funnily enough I haven't checked the forum for ages due a long stint with no consistent bike action for a number of reasons (primarily crazy work hours that have been killing me and pretty much explain my disappearance) and just happened to check back in today. Yup I don't mind, its a good incentive to enter more races!

Yea thats correct Vic, only 3 riders of the 4 need to finishing for a time to be recorded. You really want to hold on to all riders for as long as possible though, because there is always a chance of a mechanical, a flat tyre, etc.

Why don't you try to convince Brenda Baker to join the masters team
It's not a question of where to gestate, but the right to gestate!Where's the foetus going to gestate...in a box?
It's in the "rough" - I saw it last week. I could be more assertive re timelines now all the tricky stuff is out of the way.
I guess I could train on the current non-conformer until the new one is ready. But just to dispel any doubt I'm never going to be an elite anything so will have to settle for masters.

Hey Eleri, Michelle P has asked Michelle who trains the juniors the other day so not sure of the response - but we only just thought of you after Stuart advised you had a racing license. Illegal bike or not - you might be in. Watch this space. And whilst I am not averse to having a go - I've only got an illegal bike (as a number of people keep telling me).
What a great idea - your tougher than me, I can't see you crying. It's all about getting a team in, and as long as we all put the effort in, and give it a serious go, it will be good experience and fun aswell. OK - We will have to organise some training rides. Yay - we have team!!We could always train as more than 4 - that way we will have spare women if stuff happens. I promise not to cry if I get dropped.
Jess and I had a quick chat at the cafe yesterday morning and were thinking of seeing if everyone had a morning free that we could dedicate to training up until the event? I was thinking Wednesday...
Maybe we could look at combining some of the elite + masters team training so we can all help each other out a bit? Especially if your whole team can't make it to each session.
Just some thoughts. I think the training part of it could be as fun as the racing part of it... So training up more for the masters certainly has benefits for everyone, even if you don't get to ride the event.

Might be hard getting every one together for a Wednesday morning at a certain time due to different people's work committments. Saturday might be a better day so I will ask the other masters what they think.Maybe we could look at combining some of the elite + masters team training so we can all help each other out a bit? I can do both days, though there may be the occasional Wednesday I can't due to an early meeting, just have to be in the office by 8/8.15ish (and that can be straight off the bike not showered and clean).
As a DHBC Master's woman.....Saturday's is not a day off....unless of course you are hung over from Friday night. That excuse is acceptable. But seeing you don't drink ELeri - you don't have an excuse.I can do Wednesdays. Saturdays as well, although I always think of it a day off.
For me - I think it will have to be a Saturday for training. Cam is away, and Michelle is yet to post - so watch this space. Also - seeing the race is on a 9am Sunday morning, my bet is we will need to stay on Saturday night. DHBC Girls loose in Gosford, this could be scary. I have a school re-union on at Gosford leagues on the Saturday night, which I have yet to commit to...this could be ugly.
Only if you are doing the TT run under ATTA. But AFAIK, the Team TT is run by CNSW, which would disqualify your special bike under UCI rules. It looks like my bike might not be illegal if the boys on the other thread are to be believed.
BTW - This is on the CNSW website:
"As the Calga circuit will still be closed on the 20th June (Team TT) and the 25th July (Individual TT) due to road works, we are negotiating with the NSW Police and Gosford Council regarding an alternative course in the Somersby area. We are hopeful that the course will be approved soon and if you wish to check it out click here for details

Unless I'm mistaken the rule is that the front wheel needs to be the same size as the rear wheel. There is also a size range and both of your wheels are within the size range.
TT = Time Trial
ATTA = Australian Time Trial Association (I Think)
AFAIK = As Far As I Know
CNSW = Cycling New South Wales
UCI = Union Cycliste Internationale (The International Cycling Union) - The overall governing body for cycling

Gee you had me fooled, all the bumps were in the right placesHa ha Eleri, you are the 4th man!! It will be the original mudgee team...yay!
I just don't know what to say to either of those.Gee you had me fooled, all the bumps were in the right places
Good news on my bike, as long as we get it back from the paint place - should be ready. Otherwise not sure what I'll be riding. Perhaps the Townie. It's got 2 wheels the same size (but no gears).
2 things:
If you've got a school reunion on in Gosford Jo, I can think of no better way than celebrating our efforts than we all go. I'm happy to call myself Tracey for the evening and pretend I was so nerdy that everyone has simply forgotten who I am. I can pull of a pretty good head of AV club if needs be. And of course half of us can slip in masquerading as partners. Can I wear jeggings? Would that be too much?
Hang-overs are indeed totally acceptable excuses for not training on a Saturday. My lifestyle isn't a third exciting as you all think it is, I just fake it so that I don't have to get out of bed.

School reunion is on the night before the race at Central Coast Leagues club........I think I will give it a miss as I would definitely end up drunk, and no good to anyone on race day. I guess we will be out for an early "Team Bonding" dinner? We can all where jeggings...and our DHBC kit. What a look!2 things:

Eleri - what is this about the Townie? Maybe you can borrow "Cadel" (My carrera) for the race. You are probably about my size if not a bit taller. Anyway - Cam - when are you back so we can organise some training.
A joke really. Would be good to have a plan B for a bike (that's not the Townie) just in case the new one doesn't appear in time. But it's going to the painter by the end of this week coming and there is no fancy paint job. And it's not PINK.Eleri - what is this about the Townie?
I'm keen to start training! Come back Camilla!!

Hang on Camilla's already booked to be Touty's partner at the school reunion
I met some of the girls at the Masters Crit this weekend. I have realised there are a lot more woman road riders than there are at Track, so expect the competition to be strong, but we will have fun. Also gutted about the reunion. I would have been happy, as 4th man, to turn up as a partner of either gender and behave appropriately or inappropriately depending upon the circumstance.
....don't take offence EMT or Camilla, but having either of you turning up as my partner would ruin my already tarnished reputation at "Shalvey High". Yes...that is the school that recorded the lowest HSC results a few years ago (obviously the school went downhill when I left).
Go team dhbc
Great to have more new female riders. WOuld have been good to have her on the team, but we have finalised the team last week. If only we had enough for 2 teams.I'm bringing a postential new recruit to the track next week. She's Masters 3 and has a strong history in triathlon and road racing. May be able to help out in the TT team if you need extra bods
Not one to contribute to much forum chat but Shalvey High is deserved of some response... Glad I know you now Jo!
Practice laps in CP on Sat for the old crew that are available or we could head to Kurnell and leg it up and back for a few laps? I'm away 27th May for just over a week. Can do the 6th June practice run though may be a bit shabby.

I think the endurance part of the training at this late stage needs to be done individually in our own time as we all are probably doing anyway. When we are together I think we need to concentrate on how to ride together, how to change, knowing who spends more time at the front, on the hills etc, rather than riding at any intensity. I guess our aim on the day is riding to the slowest rider and holding on to them as long as possible. Maybe we can get some tips from the boys. Saturday mornings are ok for me if we get them done early enough. Let's wait till next week when Cam gets back. In the meantime - keep training.Practice laps in CP on Sat for the old crew that are available or we could head to Kurnell and leg it up and back for a few laps? Last year the changes were dictated by the terrain. Eugene had bike problems and we were forced to drop him. Alex R and Christian were a little faster than me on the day, so I had to protect myself, by where possible hitting the hill first. On the odd hill where I lost a couple of bike lengths I had to tell them to hold up. Christian gave me an energy gel and that certainly helped.
If the terrain doesn't dictate it too much then you are probably better to calculate out how much time each should spend on the front.

HI Timoyne, depends on the grade that the person wants to play.
There is a fairly social and inexpensive comp on grass at Old Saleyards at Parramatta. All the comps that are played on turf are expensive. Any idea of standard?
Cheers,

Hey Weiyun,
Just like to say thanks from the Girls DHBC TT team for sorting out our training session this morning - it was really helpful for us in understanding our own pace and getting an idea of the others pace as well - very well structured we got a lot out of the 2 hours. Even with some Team problems (Michele - Hangover + 3 hours sleep, Camilla - creaky bike - although we think it was her body creaking, and Eleri's illegal bike - we managed to get through the drills ok. Look forward to the race, not necessarily the hills, but it will be nice to finally have a womans team together.

Yes - thanks Weiyun. I'm absolutely sure we wouldn't have achieved anything much without your guidance. It was great to have a structure and you've clearly thought alot about how the team can work together which was the bit we all needed.
My frame is back from the painter! It looks beautiful. Hopefully I will have a complete bike by Thursday, just waiting for a headset I think (I was too excited about seeing the bike to listen / remember). Woo hoo!

It was a pleasure and hopefully it'll be useful. Good luck with the lead up and the race!
