G'day all,

Since making the hats for the RAW prize I have had a high level of interest from those who did not race. I've had a think & it won't take much to get another batch done. Turn around is 6 weeks & that's exactly what they took last round.

I've decided that since the majority of interest is through the Saturday slowies that instead of saying 'RAw track champions' on the side it will say 'Saturday Slowies' & I plan to put less stripes on it. They will be avilable to anyone in the club though. Cost will be $20.

But it will need to go to my chief designer to see what he comes up with. This thread is not a pre order thread nor a guarentee that you will get one just to measure level of interest so I know how many to get.

Cheers Simon.

Just my opinion....I don't think any one would want Saturday Slowies written on the side. Why can't we just have DHBC or some thing generic like that so it is just a club hat for people riding socially or racing?

If you are after opinions, then I would have to agree with Jo on this. I wouldn't wear a Saturday Slowie hat, but maybe that's because I am sensitive about being slow...

The hat design team has heard the ladies and so in order to keep people happy, the words have been changed. Hats will now say "Sunday Slowies".

Seriously though. Hats are good. A generic version with DHBC written on it is all you need. I like the idea of not actually saying what DHBC means. If you know you know and don't need to ask.

I think that I'd buy one if it had saturday slowies on it or not. I am a saturday slowie, so I have no fear of having it written a hat.

My point was not about feeling bad about being a Saturday Slowie (I go on slowies often), it was more that the hat should be generic so it would appeal to a wider audience. If they go ahead - Stu would like one. :D

Hey Jo,

I can definitely understand the sentiments behind your comment and wouldn't ordinarilly disagree with you on this one except for I have a few reasons for why I want to brand these Saturday slowies;

The first is simply that majority of people who have commmented and wanted them since they were made were the non racing members of the club, mainly the saturday slowies. All the racers were basically given one and no-one else had a chance or even option of getting one.

Secondly even though I have been the main driving force behind racing for a number of years for this club I value the social leg of this club strongly.

thirdly the first batch of hats were made to commemorate something very special to me & a few others who have envied the club championship at RAW & were stoked to see the club grow to a point where we could win it & did. I want the next line of hats to commemorate something else very special for our club and that is a tribute to what Lindsay set up about 5 years ago. It is one of the great things he put in place for more socialble people who ride a bike & I think we should celebrate Lindsay's acheivement in setting this up & the value it has brought to the club. 5 Years on it is still going strong, which is not easy to do.

Finally we only need to sell 25, so making a 'generic hat' isn't really that important. We can re-design them for thenext batch.

Cheers Simon.

Well, ours may say "Saturday Slowies" Trouty, but they won't have so many skid marks!

I may be slow, but I don't understand this cryptic comment at all ???

I'll have one of both i.e. one with and one without Saturday Slowies written on it, although the Sunday Slowies line did appeal as well as I'm def one of them ....

Stewart, the RAW hats have a whole heap of stripes on the front of them and apparently some of our more aesthetically endowed members thought it a bit lairy. Hence my reference to 'skid marks'.

You will notice that Simon has stated he is going to have less stripes on the next versions.

Can I order a hat with Saturday Slowies, Waterfall ride, Time Trials, Adventure rides, Kilt rides, Budgie smuggler rides, Road Races, and Heffron Park Crit races written all over it? They all are pretty special to me! :)

i want a 'you are now passing another saturday slowy' jersy

i also want a hat :D

Saturday slowies has nothing to do with how fast we ride, ive been to slowies training that would kill off a lot of the fasties :) but its not about that, its about the coffee, its about the people, and its about the brand.

I love saturday slowies for every thing it is, i started going because lindsey told me i could turn up as a continuation of the night before (as i didnt want to do waterfall etc) and then i kept it up as i liked hangin out for the coffee. These days i do it for either A specialty training, or B a break from specialty training :D It can be any thing :D

Slowies is the only road ride i have done on my track bike (every thing else was broken on the morning?! i did it on track gearing too, no breaks?!)

Hat me.
Just keep the DH in a circle offa the thing. that's an invitation to ridicule.
I think it is a nice way to extend the brand by giving us an "off-the-bike" uniform item that is still a piece of distinctive cycling apparel in a way that a t-shirt just is not.
If it becomes our cafe hat, or our "wear around between races" hat or our "throw in the air excitedly when clubmates win stuff" hat, that's good enough for me!

I'd probably prefer a generic DHBC hat. But just so long as I can still turn the brim up and look like a Benny Hill-style halfwit, I'll be happy.

I love the idea of having a 'Saturday Slowies' hat. Not only would I be proud to wear one, but a significant number of our members ride Saturdays only. They're just as committed as the rest of us and an important element of DHBC. I'd like to honour what is actually quite a unique facet of our club. If it weren't for Saturday Slowies there's no way I'd be doing the sort of riding I do now, or have had the opportunity to make the friends I did who encouraged and helped me to do so. I can't be alone in saying that.

And we're talking 25 hats people! We could no doubt get a set of generic ones too and sell the lot.

As a folliclely challenged Sunday Waterfall rider I'd be very keen on purchasing a DBHC hat to protect the pate whilst having a post ride coffee. I like the sentiment of recognising Saturday slowies even though I've never had the pleasure of joining this ride due to other Saturday commitments.

I'd love a hat, but maybe not with saturday slowies on it because I've only done that ride once before. Perhaps if that part was obscured by helmet it wouldn't be a big deal. Gloves with DHBC on the knuckles would be sweet too.

Stripes are ok, just not so many (how many are there exactly? I haven't got one to count) :(

I would prefer ummm ... three stripes ?, not two. Two is twee... 8) But maybe another set would be ok.

Have you got a picture of the RAW cap, to have a look?

I liked the logo on the side too, rather than on the peak. I thought the other design was really good, just with less stripes and Saturday Slowies instead of RAW Champions...

Ooops, sorry. You did say don't post it in the thread... Mea Culpa. Delete me Stewie...

FYI all users can delete their own posts.

I'm also in for 3 stripes and Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club on the side (like the RAW one) and replace RAW Track Champs with Saturday Slowies. I can't draw it so I'm describing.

Primo hat idea. Now that you mention it the DH in a circle thing is pretty funny, especially when worn in an aerial position! I'd wear it for laughs. But yeah any hat, slow or not, would be cool.

If you have a DH in a circle, it should be on the top facing up, for those aerial shots...

I'm not sure where we're at with this, and if I'm too late to have my 2 cents worth. I love the design you put up Chidgey. The 3 stipes are really fetching, especially with the thicker one in the middle. Only suggestion I'd have is for the sides; "Saturday Slowies" I'm all for, but I reckon the other side should simply say "Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club". Maybe a "2010" somewhere to give it a bit of historical cache too.
