Hi folks,
I'll be doing the 100km Scamper ride this Saturday if you're interest in a mossey out to Windsor and back. I'll be riding my touring bike (weight penality) and my approach to the ride will be 'gran fondo' style (see all the details below).
Also, a very exciting new Audax ride is being planned in Sydney for 31st March that you might want to keep in your diary. It's called Tar 'n Dirt. More details to follow, but the ride will be a mixed terrain randonneur (sealed and no-sealed dirt roads) over 200km of Hawesbury River roads and fire trails. You'll need a min with of 28mm tyres. The ride would be most suited to anyone on a tourer or cyclocross bike (or an older roadie with tyre clearance!).
Let me know if you're interested in either.

Greetings Randonneurs
For a number of reasons, including the current and likely weather conditions, the scheduled Tar 'n Dirt ride has been postponed until 31st March.
In its place "The Scamper Series" will now be run this Saturday 4th Feb.
The good news is that those who wanted to do a 200km ride this Saturday are still able to do so (though all on sealed roads) AND there will also be 150km and 100km rides available on Saturday.
If you were one of those who weren't going to sign up before, then you might want to review your weekend plans
This now means the start/finish points have now been changed to Waitara Avenue/Olive bar and Grill (usual start/finish points on our rides).
Online entry is now open - http://regonline.activeglobal.com/ss_20120204
Everything you need to know is in the Ride Info Document - http://www.audax.org.au/public/images/s ... 120204.pdf
Hope to see you at the start.
Cheers
Howard & Bec
Audax Scamper Series - 4 Feb 2012
Would love to go for this.
Pity about the short deadline.

When you say 28mm Adrian, would some 25c Rando tyres suffice? Do you envisage it being more difficult than say, the strade bianchi from the 2010 Giro, which was just a dirt road? I guess obviously the fatter the better, but I'd like to try and not sure if I could squeeze 28s in on any of my rigs
Hi Rhys, I'd say it would be doable but risky unless you take it easy. Unlike the the strade bianche which I thinks is more compacted clay with some gravel, I think some of the Hawkesbury roads would have a lot more sand snad-traps which would be a bit more of an issue. I'll contact Howard and Bec to clarify. I'm thinking of doing it on 32s on my SS.
Rhys I have a 51cm Surly Cross Check in my friends garage in Sydney. You would be most welcome to borrow it! I actually have to get it out of that garage and into my sisters anyway, so you would be helping me out Let me know if you want to borrow for the ride

Have you got a 56cm cyclo cross bike hiding somewhere for me Vic?
I like the idea of the tar'n'dirt ride.
My "city bike" has 28c tyres on it, and 32s should just squeeze in if they're not too knobbly.
What type of tyres would you recommend for this?
Maybe something like these? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=20457

Hi Alex, I've got some nobby 32 CX's if you would like to try them. They're straight off Pia's new Cross-Check. I tried putting them on my single speed yesterday but were just to tight to get in my preferred 18T freehwheel. I'm going to ride my tourer now which will be heavy and slow, but whats the rush with these Audax rides?
