The Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club committee is keen to know what you think about the club and for you to give us your thoughts on the options we are considering.
At the recent AGM, members told us:
- we could provide more rides;
- they were interested in different clothing options; and
- that it would be good to have more social events.
We are interested to know whether there is broad support for these and other options and, if so, what we should prioritise. We can't do everything at once.

As it has been listed as an 'announcement' you will notice it appears at the top of each page in the Board Index.
In addition, if you use Tapatalk on your smart phone, it will appear as an 'Unread' post on the first page.

The 44% whom don't have a racing licence already know they won't race in the future. Of the 56% whom have a racing licence, 23% of those are unlikely to race in the future. I just like knowing I can race in the future if I want.56% have a racing licence

We are all talkers - 47% of us found out through "word of mouth"
Cycling NSW generated 8% of contacts
Just over a third found out about us from our website.
and over 10% saw DHBC out riding around. We are quite distinctive in our red jerseys after all.
So keep talking and riding around in club kit - seems to be working!

Absolutely. Recall the number of times where enquiries were made about the club whilst I was out on a ride, this is definitely the primary referral source. Behave well on the road and chit chat whist waiting at red lights.

Likelihood that respondents will race in the future
Q8 was open ended. Members were asked why they didn’t race and what the barriers were to them racing,
By far the biggest response was from people who didn’t know how to get started in racing – whether it be confidence, riding skills, knowledge, where to turn up, what gear they needed and whether they are even fast or good enough. Some people mentioned not knowing how to train for racing.
Quite a few had family commitments that precluded them because of time and conscious that an injury to them could impact on the whole family. Having enough time to train and get fit enough to race was a consideration as well, and a number of people cited their jobs as getting in the way.
The cost of racing and the lack of equipment – e.g. a track bike- was also a barrier. Some people mentioned age and health as barriers.

Many members used the opportunity to say there was nothing they disliked about the club or wanted to change. Many more told us they are very proud of the club, “We have an awesome Club” and thanked the committee, ride leaders and volunteers (why thank you ☺).
We do have some things to work on though and outstanding was the number of comments about the need for improvements to the bunches. The lack of ride leaders, particularly for the C28s was noted by a number of people and that means that many new riders are not getting “taught” the bunch riding skills that DHBC expects.
There is a demand for changes to rides, including more weekday club rides, slower rides for those not up to Waterfall C25s but still wanting a longer ride, Saturday rides and more variety. One person wanted us all to get up earlier, another wanted us to start later.
Racing got a mention with requests for a more structured approach to racing and the re-introduction of some club racing and pathways for young riders.
A bunch of people think we could make improvements to the club kit design and quality - and to have more clothing options. This reinforces the priority placed on that in Q3.
And there’s a minor theme in a number of comments that perhaps we are not quite as inclusive and welcoming as we say we are. The strains of rapid growth mentioned as a possible cause.
