DHBC member Gary Jenkins joined the club last year. However his grand father Percy Fitzgibbon (born 1891) and grand uncle Arthur (born 1881) were foundation members of the club a 110 years ago.
Both Fitzgibbon boys were present at the 8 April 1908 inaugration of the club held at the old Dulwich Hill Masonic Hall (since demolished) on New Canterbury Road.

'Dulwich Hill Cycling Days'. A poem by Ken Fitzgibbon, uncle of Gary Jenkins. Written around 1988 and recited at the DHBC 80th anniversary celebrations and published in Sonia Heathcote's book (1988) of the same name, 'Dulwich Hill Cycling Days'

Strangely, the Fitzgibbon family has had a continuous presence in the club. Apart from Percy (1891-?) and Arthur (1881?) being foundation members, Percy's son Ken (1914-?) attended the DHBC's 75th and 80th anniversary dinners. Let's hope Gary Jenkins, Percy's grandson will attend the 110th anniversary dinner in 2018 too.

Gary Jenkins has provided more info on his grandad Percy Fitzgibbon (born 1891). He was a foundation member of the DHBC in April 1908 and appears in the well known 'DHBC Team 1910' photo (see above). He stands third from the left.

Percy Fitzgibbon with his fixed wheel race bike from 1910. This bicycle has a 'P' (for Paris) on its headtube which I assume denotes the fact it was made by club founder Charlie Paris in his shop at Loftus St, Dulwich Hill.

By around 1930 a new generation of Fitzgibbons were joining the DHBC. Percy's eldest son John 'Jack' Fitzgibbon (born 1914) was a 'junior' club champion. He is wearing the old red and faun club jersey used between the 1920s and 1945.
