Why would you pay $450 for a cracked frame?

Very dodgy story too as it said that the insurance company have expensed it, yet didn't collect the frame.

Home contents insurance. BNSW's insurance extra.

I think you can usually get your bike insured as an extra on your home and contents insurance, though some insurance companies are better than others.

As for that frame, i'm wondering why the bike went to and from pinarello, as he says that's when the scratching happened, and the only reason i could think of for it going to pinarello would be to repair it.....

Anyway, all this talk about damaged bike bits. I worked out why my front tyre didn't want to stay up on sunday morning before i left the house. It seems that in my crash my front tyre hit the other guys casette, so it has a line of holes through the casing, and one of them is obviously just big enough to allow an inflated tube to sneak through and then pinch it. I'm glad it had nothing to do with my fast tube changing skills. 8)

I'll give you 8.6/10 for not noticing the problem earlier. 8)

Next time someones ordering, I need some more tyres, my rear rubino has a big cut in it, I'll be lucky to ride home.

So when are you going to use up all your current spares?

I've got to put both ProRace2's on the bike now, leaving only the conti ultra speed as spare.

Pity about the Rubino, it was virtually new. Maybe I can glue it together and use it on the beast when it works again, won't use it on the front.

Shame about the cut. But if you do run short, I have 3 spares here. I think I over bought.

So how many flats are you up to this year?

I pulled the tyre off and to my surprise the large cut had hardly damaged the carcus, so I put a patch inside the tyre and put it back on.

Now I've discovered something interesting about those pro2race tyres. On the packaging they have a symbol with the words "HIGH PERFORMANCE + Silicium Energy" [I thought the spelling should of been silicon ????] and on the tyre itself is the words "service course" wapped in a small branch of leaves.

Correct me if I wrong, but ain't those tyres the flash ones that have virtually no rolling resistance, 40% more wet weather grip and last 800k on the rear?

Nope, you're wrong. All Michelin Pro2 race tyres have the words service course on them.

The Special ones were limited to 30,000 worldwide, and only sold in pairs, also only light blue. One other difference is that the standard pro2 race tyres have a coloured stripe along the centre of the tyre while the limited edition ones don't. The Pro2 grips also don't have this stripe down the middle, but i assume they say grip.

Anyway, you would have known when you bought the tyres if they were going to be the limited editions, and since it's been 1yr since they came out, i'd guess they're all gone now.

Thats good, I didn't really want tyres that only lasted 800k on the rear.

Yep, just as I've suspected. You'll need to put on some weight to avoid further punctures. The correlation is definitely there.

Yesterday I didn't actually puncture, I don't know what cut the tyre, but it must of gone across it and didn't push in too deeply. Perhaps my luck is changing.

The road in front of that pub on the western end of Pyrmont Br is often littered with broken glass from the previous night, especially on Sat mornings.

Yes, I remember riding that way with you, it was a real shocker. You need an alternative route to that one.

But you can't avoid it unless you do a major detour b/n Anzac Br and Pyrmont Br, ie. Doing a loop around the casino. It's the standard route going into Darling Harbour.

You might be thinking about Oxford St. The council usually sweep that section unless I am extra early, like the day when we rode together.

Yes, you are right, I didn't read the post properly.

What about going on the other side of the road and then crossing at that "safety zone"

I guess it depends on the lighting during your transit. It's a lot easier to avoid during daylight hours but much much harder or impossible to avoid in the evening or early morning before sunrise.

Considering that the thread started about the cracked Pinarello, it was interested to see how it got hijacked.

You can insure bikes, but about the only company that I know of that does it to any sort of decent level is Cycle Cover (http://www.cyclecover.com.au). I have my home and contents insurance under them, and I pay a premium for it. The bikes are insured, and you can insure them for racing as well (but it costs more again).

At their top level of insurance, your entire bike is covered including the wheels and tyres, I think it is a $500 excess. So, if you are riding along, have a spill, and the bike goes under the nearest Semi Trailer, you pay $500 and get a complete new bike out of it.

As far as my Pinarello goes, Hill Brick had it for a while trying to repair the crack and just couldn't do it. Every time he welded it, it would recrack when the weld cooled, he really felt that the top tube had been cut too short. I have the frame back, and I am still half tempted to speak to Pinarello again to see if they will look at it.

I find the ebayer interesting in the sense that he is trying to sell a frame that "is repairable", does that mean that if you buy it and can't repair it, he will refund the sale?

James

It was forced upon us. We just chipped in out of the goodness of our hearts to keep the thread alive to compensate for your way delayed appearance. :P

......What happens if you are attached to the bike as it slides under the semi...??????
