Emma, traditionally the DHBC Adventure Rides are for anyone who has comfortably completed a few Waterfall's in a row. Generally a no drop ride, they are not training rides but more a meander through parts of Sydney you wouldn't normally ride.
And are great fun!

It needs to be stressed that this ride is intended to serve as a first entry into the Royal National Park for some. The pace will be that of the slowest rider, we will wait for everyone at the top of the hills.. If you ride 25s and want to try a little bit more please come along, it's not a training ride, it's an adventure, going places that we don't get to often.
Have a great ride,
Peter

Damien,
We plan to run the Adventure Rides on a monthly basis, keep an eye on the forum for details.
They'll all be programmed to be suitable for riders like yourself who want to extend themselves past Sunday Waterfall rides.
Enjoy Melburn Roobaix (keep an eye out for Blake Williams and Dave Rankin who are heading down as well)

Hi Peter
Can you please confirm that the finish time in Marrickville is ~10:15am?
Last Sunday at the Waterfall ride I heard someone saying that we should expect to get back at or after lunch time.
Cheers

I'm unsure if we'll make the 9 am ferry. If we get on the 10 am ferry, we'll be in Cronulla at 10.30 and still have a 30 km ride.
By my reckoning, 12 noon is a more realistic ETA.
Sorry for the mix up,
Peter
On the other hand, I'm slightly more optimistic. I have another commitment later on Sunday morning, so will be targeting the 9am ferry.
The ferry takes ~20min, and it's a 23 km ride back to Marrickville. So I'm confident of making it back by 10:30am at the latest. Appreciate this doesn't build in much of a contingency. But we can always split the group, and those with time constraints can come with me.
Cheers
Paul

Thanks Peter and Paul.
I'll take my chances and if there are some coming early I'll join this group even if this means a mock TTT training -:)
Really looking forward to this ride.

Ah yes... You must always allow most of the day for an Adventure Ride. You never know when 'Bridge to Bridge' might be on and you are stuck on the river bank for 2 hours. Andrew Mattes' knows this too well.
As for the Bundeena Ferry... Let's just say it is a good photo op.

If the hills dont kill me, I'm happy to join this TTT ride back.TTT training on the way home is an added bonus!
Following Dougie might allow me to get some inside info on the Carbon Cranks.
Steve.

Hi Paul D,
I'll discuss with Peter B and we'll post something shortly. However, the next regular adventure ride is likely to be Sun 26 July or Sun 2 Aug (i.e. shortly after the NSW TTT Championships). Going forward, we'll be running these rides approx once per month.
Meanwhile, please note that, generally, we've got a large portfolio of potential rides. However, if anyone has anything in particular that they'd like to do, or has heard of something in particular that they'd like to try, then feel free to let us know, and we'll try to accommodate.
Cheers

Thanks very much and congratulations to Paul and Pete for putting this ride together. Looking forward to the next ones. Unfortunately I've been off the bike since for other reasons, but I'll thank you both personally probably next weekend.
On another point (Blake, feel free to move this if you think this isn't the place), during the flat in Cronulla we had an interesting conversation about hart rate monitors. Personally I don't like the idea of a chest strap (feel for the girls) and have been using an arm band for about an year now - Scosche RHYTHM+. It is very accurate, comfortable and easy to use. It also broadcasts in both ANT+ and bluetooth at the same time.
Here is a link to CD Rainmaker full review: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/05/scos ... tical.html
And here is a link to it at JBHiFi, but I'm not sure if it is a good price: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/ipods-docks-s ... ps/617900/
Cheers

Easter Friday 25th March 2016 West Head and Akuna Bay C28 pace 5:45am
The traditional way to spend Easter Friday is on the West Head adventure ride! Run every year since, well at least 2012 this ride is about 130k and will be at about a C28 pace. It's no drop and we'll ride to stay together. There will be coffee / food stops.
You'll need to bring two tubes, two bottles, food & money for coffee (but not pies; can't seem to remember a pie outlet on this route although Peter could probably tell me there is one)
Plan is to ride out along Pittwater Rd, up McCarrs Ck Rd out to West Head then down to Akuna and back via Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway. I am open to suggestions for a different return route, depending on bunch size. Decided not to come back via my trad route up Wakehurst the whole way as it's a bit dodgy for a big bunch given the pathetic size of the shoulder in many places.
I'll post a route when it's finalised. Here's a video of the 2015 ride. It rained a little bit and included Wakehurst all the way.

And yes add your name here please.

Hi everyone. Weather looking good. Please remember its dark when we start so you'll need functioning lights front and back. Given the current anti-cycling climate in Sydney you should also have a bell.
Let's have a safe ride noting some remarks from the ride leader of last Sunday's C28's where there was wheel touch induced crash.
see you all at 5:45 - if it's raining I'll post here around 5:00am
There was some pretty poor riding before the crash. In particular:
Riders on the front sprinting away from traffic lights. This has a concertina effect and leaves riders behind struggling to get on.
Leaving gaps. Riders chatting and not rotating with the bunch. Concentrate, and save the conversation for the coffee shop afterwards.
Sudden changes of direction. Unnecessary violent swerves around small pot holes.
Poor equipment: No lights. Gatorade bottle in a bidon cage, which fell out within 500 m.
ACCELERATING: Accelerating away from lights and across lanes should be done in a more dignified manner than when you are on your own, so that other cyclists are not dropped.
HALF WHEELING: Half-wheeling is one rider always riding in front of his partner, which then puts the whole bunch out. It is essential that you keep level with your partner if at the front: keep your handlebars level with the handlebars of the rider next to you, rather than your front wheel level with theirs.
SITTING ON: Keep reasonably close to the cyclist in front of you and again keep level with your partner. If too much of a gap is left the bunch is always playing ‘catch up’. Keep your head and eyes up. Don’t watch the gap between bikes. Scanning ahead will give you early warning of changes.

rough as guts and when the copyright police catch on that i've stolen the music it may get taken down. Till them enjoy. Thanks to Nick Cave and Warren Ellis for the stolen music. My very first go at editing so be gentle with the criticism. Great ride, thanks to all!
