Any body interested in coming on a mountain bike ride? Its good cross training, great for bike handling skills. See how the other half rides.

I was thinking of the Oaks fire trail in the Blue mountains, its one way, about 26km, I'd say its more then half downhill. Saying that its a cross country ride. You catch the train from Glenbrook to Woodford then ride back.

When is subject to if anyone actually wants to come and trackwork, for some reason they are always doing trackwork when I want to ride and they don't let you take your bike on the bus. I was thinking sometime in April, after the Masters.

If anyone is super keen but doesn't have a bike I do have a spare, but you would have to be around my height, 180cm.

How technical is the track?

I've been wondering how much my touring/cross bike could handle!

The track is a bit rough in places, and a bit rocky. Thats the first half anyway. The second half is downhill fire trail which isn't too bad and then some single track, which again isn't too bad. There is a short technical section at the end which you can go around. I think you could do it on a cyclocross bike, but its going to hurt. I personally wouldn't do it on anything less then a hard tail mountain bike, but I have seen someone riding it on a BMX.

I did a little search, and it seems like it would be doable on my bike, though i may need to get some tires with a bit more meat to grip on the corners a bit better. As long as i'm not working or racing somewhere, i'll come and give it a crack, though i might ride out there just for some extra training.

19th would probably be better for me, as Blayney to Bathurst is on the 13th, but i'll have to see if i'm needed at work.
